Here are a few pictures of the big night…

I have been waiting for this day ever since I found out I was pregnant! There was never a question in our minds as to whether we would find out the baby’s gender or not – we definitely wanted to know! About a month ago, I began thinking about how we would celebrate the news and I decided that we would have a dinner party for our immediate family. As soon as our ultrasound was scheduled, I emailed everyone the date and details…the date would be Wednesday, December 2nd and everyone was required to wear either blue or pink depending on what their guess was. My plan was to announce the “big reveal” via cupcakes after dinner just to keep the suspense going for awhile longer. I knew the day would be extra special because it also happened to be my dad’s 51st birthday :)
Today I woke up all excited and went into work with butterflies in my stomach. It was SO hard to concentrate on work when all I could think about was the ultrasound. I left work at noon to meet Donny for lunch before heading to our appointment at 1:30pm. I got stuck in a major traffic jam due to an accident on I-75N and my drive that should have taken 20 mins or so ended up taking almost an hour! I remained calm and positive and finally made it in time to grab a quick bite and down some lemonade (lots of sugar to make the baby move during the ultrasound – it worked!).
We arrived at the doctor’s office and were back in the ultrasound room in no time. It is truly amazing how much detail we could see! We saw all of our baby’s body parts, the four chambers of the heart, the spinal cord (which I think was the coolest part), and of course the private parts. The first picture we saw was of the baby’s face with its mouth open and it was so cute. The baby was very active, so it made it easy for the ultrasound tech to get good measurements, but hard for her to get a good picture of the baby’s little foot. All in all everything checked out great! The heartbeat was 154bpm, the baby weighs 13oz, is 10.5″ long, and is measuring 6 days ahead. We are very blessed and thankful for a healthy baby!
After the ultrasound I came home and cooked our dinner…meatloaf, brown rice, roasted carrots w/ thyme, and applesauce with marshmallows. When I was planning the menu the day before, I had a mini panic attack and realized there was no way I was going to have time to bake the cupcakes on top of everything else I had to cook in the short amount of time after the ultrasound. I called our good friend Ryan to see if he could help us out , and he did an amazing job making the delicious cupcakes in the picture above. When he agreed to make the cupcakes for us, I let him have complete creative freedom – my only stipulation was that I didn’t want people to know what the gender was until they actually bit into the cupcakes. So we called him as soon as we knew and he filled the cupcakes with the appropriate color icing.
When everyone arrived in their different colors, they were expecting to be told right away if they had guessed correctly. What fun would that have been? I explained that they would not know until they bit into their cupcakes after dinner and that drove everyone crazy :) Without wasting a moment of time after dinner, they all grabbed a cupcake and simultaneously took their first bites. Seconds later, the room exploded with laughter and cheers as everyone wiped the BLUE filling from their mouths :) Jenny (who was “team blue”) immediately jumped up, threw her arms in the air and rubbed the fact that she was right in Dan’s (aka “team pink”) face for the next few minutes. It was great! Both grandmas were so sure it was a girl – Donny’s mom brought me pink flowers and a little toy kitten and my mom bought the most adorable pink cowboy boots that she will now have to return or save for the next girl that comes along.
The dinner party turned out great and I have to say this has been a near perfect day :) I am overwhelmed with joy right now…I have a healthy baby boy growing inside of me and a wonderful family I love very much to share this momentous occasion with.
Here are a few pictures of our BABY BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam, email me your address and I’ll mail the gift card ASAP :)
Out of 25 votes, only 7 of you guessed it would be a boy! Donny and I were both on the band wagon with the majority of the voters and thought we were having a girl…oops!
