28 weeks + Glucose Test

How far along? 28 weeks (7  months)
Total weight gain: up 20 lbs since pre-pregnancy…had a big jump from last month, but the doctor said that was normal because my weight gain has been slow and low so far.
Sleep: still good
Best moments this week: 1) we found out that Donny has the same blood type as I do and we are both RH negative, so I don’t have to get the rhogam shot :)  2) I found the fabric I’m going to use for the crib bedding (we decided to make our own instead of buying a set).  3) My friend Andrea gave us a bunch of free baby stuff :)  4) Baby is head down…let’s hope he stays that way!
Food cravings: none really
Gender: BOY!!
What I miss: not feeling self-conscious 100% of the time. As much as I love feeling him move like crazy inside my belly and as much as I can’t wait to meet my son, I have to admit that I don’t like this whole getting huge part. It is so hard to explain the crazy emotions that go through your head when you see your body transform so much. And to think that I still have 12 weeks to grow – YIKES!!
What I am looking forward to: holding my baby in my arms for the first time.
Milestones: 3rd trimester (officially)

From BabyCenter:

“By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. He’s also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world”.

Yesterday I had my 28 week appointment and my finger prick glucose screening test. Much to my dismay I FAILED the initial test! I was given no instructions whatsoever other than to drink the entire bottle of the orange sugar solution above in 5 minutes and then come straight to the doctor’s office so I could get my finger pricked an hour later. While having lunch with a friend (and drinking a large root beer) yesterday, she was shocked to find out that I was having sugar before the test. I don’t normally drink pop at all anymore, but I didn’t think anything of it when I ordered it for lunch yesterday because I was not told to lay off the sugar before my test. She explained that her doctor instructed her not to have ANY sugar before her test and that is when I started to get worried. Not only did I drink root beer, but my organic peanut butter cereal that I had for breakfast had some sugar in it also.

Considering the circumstances, I am fairly certain the finger prick test was a false positive, but I still have to go for the annoying 3 hour test on Monday morning. From what I have read, it is pretty common to fail the finger prick and pass the more comprehensive 3 hour test. Apparently only about 2-5% of pregnant women actually develop gestational diabetes, so hopefully I won’t be one of them!

I’m glad you are back to blogging regularly! I think you should take it easy on yourself, though. You look great, and I should know. And I can’t wait to meet our son either. And I seriously cant wait until he is old enough for me to buy him a dirtbike :)

When I turned 28 weeks I also had to the screening. I’m not a big fan of orange drinks so it was a little hard for me to keep it down but thankfully I did. I can’t believe the doctor didn’t tell you about not having any sugar. I’m thankful that I passed the test. I heard about that three hour test so I made sure I did everything right. I hope everything turns out okay for you.
