First Born Son

We set up the bassinet that our friends let us borrow and I couldn’t resist testing it out:)Although Opie prefers his rightful place in bed with us, he actually didn’t mind his soon-to-arrive brother’s bed.

In other “Opie” news, we found out what breed he is and were quite shocked with all but one of the results. When we adopted him 2 years ago we were told he was a miniature pinscher / pug mix based on their “best guess”. We never quite believed the “pug” part and after our own research, we guessed he was probably a miniature pinscher / chihuahua mix. We have always wanted to find out for sure what mix he was, but never wanted to pay a lot of money to do so.

Well, around Christmas our friends Kim & Scott told us about BioPet, an animal DNA testing kit, that they used to find out what breed their dog Jack was. We finally got around to ordering a kit for ourselves months later and just got the results back on Friday.

Much to our surprise, Opie is the mutt of all mutts and apparently is a mix of 4 different breeds:

1. Chihuahua (the only non-surprise)

2. Yorkshire Terrier

3. American Eskimo (seriously ?!?)

4. Beagle

So there you have it…who knows exactly how accurate the results are, but we don’t care. It was fun to find out and all we really know for sure is that he is 100% perfect in our eyes and we would never trade our little mutt for the world!!

I think we borrowed that same bassinet (and have a picture of our cat sleeping in it)! It’s a lucky bassinet. All the babies who sleep in it turn out awesome. Just so you know.

too cute! I adopted a dog once, Takumi, and i was told he would never grow to be more than 10lbs. He was super super tiny when i got him, but weighs about 50 pounds now!

Not sure if I’ve ever written a comment on here before. We got the DNA testing for our dog a couple years ago – such a fun thing to do! We have since found out that the tests are not very accurate – but still glad we did it!

Kelly, I’m so happy you did the BioPet test! So fun! Definitely not expecting the American Eskimo, but then again, we didn’t think Jack was part Irish Setter. After google-image searching some Irish Setters, we actually saw Jack’s smile in all those random photos. Who knew?!

Aw how cute is he??? We want to get a DNA kit for Gimli. So interesting to see what they’re made of!
Our cats LOVED the bassinet. Luckily, they seemed to NOT like it as much once it had that new-baby smell associated with it. :)
